Looking Back on a Summer of Firsts for Learning Undefeated
This summer has been full of surprises, not only for Learning Undefeated but the world of education. After suspending mobile laboratory programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March, Learning Undefeated had to find new ways to reach teachers and students. We transformed our traditional mobile laboratory investigations into digital lesson bundles, produced over thirty videos of science experiments to try at home, created a brand-new virtual summer camp program including at home science kits, and partnered with organizations to train them on our camp resources for in-person instruction.
The Anywhere Labs
Learning Undefeated’s Education Team worked tirelessly to convert our rigorous mobile laboratory curriculum to correspond with a digital platform. Our distance learning program provides turnkey, standards-aligned lesson bundles for subjects like biology, chemistry, earth science, engineering, and many more. Program components include real-time, mobile-friendly access to standards-aligned laboratory investigations, multimedia STEM resources, collaborative assignment tools, and interactive assessments. Whether teaching synchronously or asynchronously, these activities are adaptable to any classroom setting.
Video Library
Committed to creating interactive and dynamic content for students, Learning Undefeated focused on video content, launching the At Home Science and STEM Spotlight series. With over thirty videos accessible via our YouTube channel, the At Home Science series provide parents, teachers, and students video walkthroughs of science experiments they can try at home. The experiments vary in subject and difficulty, from the classic science fair baking soda volcano to a do-it-yourself balloon rocket.
The STEM Spotlight series demonstrates a diverse range of STEM professionals providing an overview of their journeys through the STEM field. Each video represents a new facet of science, technology, engineering, and math and delivers students a glimpse into what a future in STEM looks like. You can view the STEM Spotlight videos on our Vimeo and follow us on social media to be the first to learn of new uploads.
At Home Explorers
This summer Learning Undefeated debuted the At-Home Explorers program, a virtual camp in partnership with the Housing Opportunities Commission and the Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington. Campers signed up for virtual session complete with a camp emcee, experiment demonstration videos, games, at home science kits and interactive discussions. Learning Undefeated staff also partnered with the Boy and Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore, training counselors and supplying their program with necessary equipment for laboratory investigations.
This summer Learning Undefeated was able to overcome the circumstances to create fun, interactive, and rigorous STEM materials for underserved communities. As we move into the school year, we look forward to producing materials that fit any and all types of classroom, no matter the circumstances.
