Some middle school young women got a unique look at how STEM classes can lead to exciting careers. They’re part of a summer camp with Hillsborough Community College. It’s designed to help girls living near the poverty level learn about careers in STEM, science, technology, engineering and math of course.
The girls got to visit a special mobile lab designed by the Verizon Foundation. Said Sara Lawrence with the Verizon Foundation, “We’re focused on really closing that gender gap for girls in technology fields and also providing underserved youth with access to technology and resources to really reach their full potential.”
The students will continue to work with the program throughout the school year. They’ll go to Hillsborough Community College about once a month to stay involved with STEM learning.
