Nonprofit Building Ten New STEM Labs for 2025 Launch
In a groundbreaking move to transform STEM education, Learning Undefeated has opened its first-ever facility dedicated to designing and building cutting-edge mobile STEM labs. This Dallas-area workshop is set to produce ten state-of-the-art “expandable pods,” a brand-new concept in mobile laboratory technology.
“This is a monumental year for Learning Undefeated,” said Jennifer Colvin, Learning Undefeated’s Chief Innovation Officer, who has launched over a dozen mobile labs in her career. “Our new workshop is more than a production space—it’s a playground for innovation. Here, we prototype cutting-edge designs, test new ideas, and bring immersive learning experiences to life before hitting the road.”
A Team of Innovators Behind the Wheel
Spearheading the engineering efforts is a powerhouse team led by Colvin and Shane Slaughter, the nonprofit’s new Director of Fleet Operations. With over 100 years of combined experience, the team’s expertise is unparalleled. On the digital side, Ali Main, Senior Manager of Events and Technical Experiences, and Kristin Diamantides, Curriculum and Instructional Design Manager, are pushing the boundaries of software development. Together, they’re delivering interactive and hands-on STEM challenges that promise to inspire and empower the next generation.
The first lab will feature the Breakout Box: Manufacturing Challenge, high school students step into an immersive adventure where they apply computational thinking and problem-solving to successfully run an eyewear manufacturing facility. Participants will control and manipulate different areas throughout the manufacturing process including scheduling, inventory, machine operations, quality control, maintenance, and distribution.
What’s Next?
The first new vehicle is set to hit the road in January 2025, bringing transformative STEM experiences to students across Texas. Learning Undefeated’s mobile labs have a mission: to ignite curiosity, fuel innovation, and open doors to careers in STEM fields.
