Recognized for its superior performance, the PORT-Able Learning Lab won the 2023 American Association of Port Authorities(AAPA) Lighthouse Award for Community/Education Outreach. AAPA’s Lighthouse Awards celebrate exemplary programs and projects in four categories: Communications, Environmental, Facilities Engineering, and Information Technology. Learning Undefeated and the Port of Corpus Christi partnered in 2022 to create the PORT-Able Learning Lab program.
Designed and operated by Learning Undefeated, the PORT-Able Learning Lab visits schools in San Patricio and Nueces Counties, bringing a totally new kind of STEM learning experience to the parking lot. The mobile shipping container introduces students to STEM concepts using immersive reality, light, sound, and touchscreen walls. The lab features several immersive learning experiences for grades K-12, from assisting in the construction of a dock while balancing budget, materials, environmental and wildlife concerns, to collecting evidence about chemical reactions, making claims, and using evidence to form arguments.
