AstraZeneca today announced the launch of a new STEM — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics — program in partnership with Learning Undefeated and Discovery Education, with the mutual goals of inspiring the next generation about science and building a strong foundation for tomorrow’s researchers. The three-year signature initiative is designed to make learning about health and disease engaging, accessible, and exciting for students in grades 6-8, primarily in under-resourced schools across the country.
José Baselga, Executive Vice President, Oncology R&D, AstraZeneca said, “We are at a pivotal moment in humankind, where the future advances in science, biology, engineering, and mathematics are going to shape our world in ways that we can’t even imagine. Empowering the next generation of scientific leaders is critical to that mission and we are pleased to roll out this community program with our partners to inspire students to consider STEM careers in healthcare.”
The program will kick off with a Virtual Field Trip to AstraZeneca’s Gaithersburg, MD, research laboratories, which will premiere on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT. The program, Generation Health: How Science Powers Us, will provide students first-hand access to the technology and scientists working to create medical breakthroughs for the world’s most pressing health problems. Educators, parents and students are invited to register here. Participants are encouraged to join a live Twitter chat during the premiere by submitting questions and sending pictures using #GenerationHealthVFT.
Lori McFarling, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Discovery Education, added, “We are pleased to augment traditional teaching and learning print curriculum with innovative digital resources that show students how scientific innovation leads to the development of new medicines. Students in grades 6-8 have imaginative minds and by providing a digital platform to educate about health and science, we hope to inspire the next generation of healthcare-focused STEM students.”
